In the textile industry, sustainability is easy to claim and hard to substantiate. At Innoleague Technologies India Pvt Ltd, we want to be specific about the environmental and safety profile of our encapsulated moth-control technology — as today the details matter, and vague claims help neither the manufacturers nor the customers.
Conventional permethrin-based moth-proofing carries a well-documented environmental liability. Permethrin is acutely toxic to aquatic invertebrates and fish at concentrations in the nanogram-per-litre range. Its presence in textile finishing effluent has been measured at levels orders of magnitude above safe aquatic thresholds. Even after conventional wastewater treatment, measurable residues can persist in receiving watercourses.
On the consumer safety side, permethrin’s classification as a possible carcinogen, combined with evidence of dermal absorption from treated textiles in prolonged skin-contact scenarios, has driven its placement on the RSLs of several major European retailers.
Our encapsulated natural active system addresses both concerns directly.
The primary actives — neem oil, tobacco leaf oil, and supporting botanical compounds — are biodegradable, derived from agricultural sources, and absent from ZDHC, REACH SVHC, and major retailer RSL frameworks. When capsules eventually release their contents or are removed from substrate through washing, the active compounds entering wastewater are naturally occurring organic molecules with well-characterised biodegradation pathways.
The aminoplast polymer shell is manufactured from precondensate chemistries used extensively in food contents, textiles, and personal care applications, and does not incorporate persistent halogenated compounds.
We are not claiming perfection — every industrial process carries environmental impact, and we remain committed to continuously evaluating and reducing ours. But directionally, the shift from a synthetic persistent insecticide to a biodegradable natural active in a controlled-release encapsulation system is a meaningful and verifiable step forward.
The premium wool market is built on the promise of nature. Its moth protection chemistry should reflect that promise.
